3rdWhale offers mobile guide to 'green' businesses

A relatively new digital media company has created an application that lets mobile phone users locate the nearest “green” businesses in their area.

3rdWhale Mobile is “dedicated to helping users make everyday choices that reduce their environmental impact and make a difference.” Its LBS-enabled (for “location-based service”) mobile app not only directs users to area bicycle shops, organic restaurants, yoga centers and other businesses, but tags each destination with details about the business’ values and what makes it green.

Users can also chime in with their own reviews and ratings for each business listed.

Available for both the iPhone and the mobile Web, 3rdWhale is currently live in 14 North American cities, including San Francisco, San Jose, Vancouver, Seattle and Portland. It’s also expanding into more cities and features more than 20,000 business listings so far.
